People need a reason to read something. If it strongly validates them, they'll love it. If it surprises or, better yet, shocks them, they'll like it a lot. Otherwise, the book will be relegated to a marginal audience, and that makes publicity all the more important as well as difficult.

Bill, I'd like to know more about this little dirty ad. What did it advertise?
