Already working on self-publishing, with one book at my editor (who is a freelancer) and two in the works. With the tools today there's no reason not to self-publish initially.

Nice points you make... thank you. You have presented rationale for me to start my efforts at independently publishing my first book, "Opening the Gates of the Heart." Currently, my book proposal is at a publishing house who does photography books, as mine is a book of photos and prose. I have not heard from them in four months, and on their website, they say that an unsolicited manuscript takes about three months before they review it. I am hopeful that they are in the debating stage. However, you present a nice argument for me to do it myself. I actually belong to the Bay Area Independent Publishers Association, so have a wealth of knowledge at my fingertips about how to self-publish. I actually have a meeting of BAIPA today, so will put the ball into motion. Thanks for the nudge.
